Alpen: Seven-Day Brighter Mornings Challenge

Alpen – most famous for their nutritious muesli – is soon to be launching the ‘Seven-Day Brighter Mornings’ Campaign with the help of a mystery celeb to challenge the public to eat Alpen every morning over the course of seven days to achieve brighter mornings.

Myself and one gym buddy reviewer took on this challenge and reviewed whether we agreed or disagreed with Alpen’s statement. During this review we defined brighter mornings as: Increase energy throughout the morning and into the afternoon; increased motivation for the day ahead, increased alertness, the feeling of being fuller for longer, less snacking and an overall score out of 10; a score was given out of 10 for each of the named points (1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest in achieving this brighter morning).

1st gym buddy reviewer was a male aged 45 with a hectic job and active gym lifestyle that consisted of him waking up before 5am most mornings and finishing work into the late evening with the possibility of two intense gym sessions each day! It was clear that a good hearty breakfast was needed to set him off in the right direction for each day’s activities. The Alpen chosen was: Alpen Original Muesli.

The benefits of Alpen Original Muesli are clearly highlighted from these ratings as being: kept fuller for longer with less needing to snack; having great increased energy levels throughout the day as well as feeling motivated for the day ahead. The Original Muesli does have added sugar in and is ideal for endurance performers, post workout and people with extremely busy lifestyles that aren’t looking for weight loss. This muesli promotes muscle growth with the wholegrain wheat and wholegrain rolled oats as the two main ingredients by having 11% protein and 67% carbohydrates (23% of which sugars – 12% are from natural sourced sugars).

For those of you wanting to eat Alpen for these brighter morning benefits but also wanting it to aid with weight loss than I would advise to eat the No added sugar Muesli (the blue box). This muesli has completely no added sugar and the only carbohydrates of which sugars (16%) are from the natural sugars from the added raisins. The fiber, protein and fat content are the same as the original muesli and so are all the ingredients bar the added sugar – this makes the no added sugar my favoured choice of the muesli’s.

Check out your local suppliers or visit http://www.weetabix.co.uk/brands/alpen/no-added-sugar for more information and to start your journey to brighter mornings!
