BackBeat FIT Wireless Headphones

For many training season is now underway for those crazy enough to be running Spring Marathons next year & as anyone who reads this blog will now, I am one of those crazies. Last year I had my trusty Jabra Sport Headphones, see that review here, but after a year of sweat, rain, wind, sea air & just general wear & tear I decide it was time to treat myself to a new pair of wireless headphones & so I chose the Plantronics BackBeat FIT wireless headphones. Like the Jabra pair I used before, these are designed for sport also.BackBeat FIT Wireless Headphones - Fitness Fan

Included in the packaging is a micro USB charging cable, the wireless headphones (available in both green or blue – I chose Blue), manual & handy neoprene smartphone armband.

Product Information

  • Flexible design fits comfortably and stays put for all levels of exercise
  • Rugged design with P2i sweat‐proof coating
  • On-ear controls for calls and music
  • Included neoprene armband secures your smartphone and reverses to store headphones
  • Powerful speakers deliver the heart-pumping bass and crisp highs of your music
  • Up to 8 hours of listening time, 6 hours of talk time, 14 days of standby time
  • DeepSleep hibernation mode activates when out of range from your phone or tablet, keeping headphones charged up to six months

The headphones are quite sleek, they are rubberized(including the band) with in-ear buds, which I prefer. The gripe I had about my previous headphones was that while the choice of ear bud types is great it took an age trying each style to find the one I preferred. Sometimes not having the choice is just better… and easier. That said I’m sure some will find these uncomfortable after prolonged use.

There are two large flat buttons on the outside of the left and right ear-pieces  which control the power, volume, play, pause & skip music tracks.

Setting them up is easy enough, a feature of these is that you can pair up to two Bluetooth devices and is suitable for both Apple & Android devices. Pairing is done by holding the call button until the button flashes red then blue – for me it was pretty simple & caused no issues.

These headphones are light, very light. The band is flexible and is meant to be worn behind your head and over the ear. The ear-buds themselves are designed so that they sit in the ear but not deep into the ear canal – this is so that noise around you is still hear able (for safety while cycling or running you need to be aware of your surroundings) but there is a tip on the ear-bud that swivels to give a nice snug fit so they never feel like they are going to fall out.

Verdict: 4/5 Good all round sports headphones, easy to use, sound quality is better than most sports & fitness targeted headphones with respectable battery life while listening to music or on standby.

Pros:

Great styling & fit. Really like the rubberized feel to them & the fact they are sweat & splash proof is essential for me in the winter running months.

Excellent battery life (8 Hours).

Comes with the reversible armband

Cons:

Sound is good but not great, poor bass mainly. Volume is good though.

Some might find the lack of ear-bud choice an issue,

Overall: A great choice of headphone for the sports enthusiast. Yes sure there are better standard headphones out there but then you run the risk of damaging them while doing your sport of choice. As sports specific headphones go these hit the mark &  with some careful shopping around you can find these easily below the RRP.

The BackBeat FIT Wireless Headphones are available from Amazon, Argos, Dabs.com & other retailers. RRP £119.99
