If you are pondering whether to upgrade to the Apple’s new iPhone 5S or not then here’s something to take into consideration besides the much faster speed, advanced camera and touch, The M7 coprocessor.
The M7 coprocessor or the M7 fitness chip as it’s being nicknamed is a set of components in the iPhone 5s which will enable a whole new generation of health and fitness apps and take them to a whole new level. Not only will it reduce battery power draining from fitness apps which use a lot of juice but it will also monitor and be able to tell how you are moving more precisely too.
“M7 knows when you’re walking, running or even driving. For example, Maps switches from driving to walking turn-by-turn navigation if, say, you park and continue on foot. If your phone hasn’t moved for a while, like when you are asleep, M7 reduces network pinging to spare your battery.” Apple
Imagine doing a Triathlon and you want an app which records data when you switch from cycling to the running and using a waterproof case to the swimming. Imagine an app which monitors your movements when exercising in the gym in a much more precise way so you can chart your progress in better detail. For the gamers among you there’s talk of the iPhone 5s being able to be used as motion controller in conjunction with Apple TV so it looks like there are some very interesting uses coming for the iPhone 5s due to the M7 fitness chip.
One app making the most of the chip so far is one called Argus by Azumio which promises an all in one solution for monitoring your health and fitness. Why not give it a go?
The M7 fitness chip will bring in some very interesting fitness apps for us to play with with so if you are still undecided about upgrading then maybe think again as you may get more out of your new phone then you realise.
