In just under six months I will be attempting to run the Brighton Marathon, unfortunately if I’m being honest it wont be the first time I’ve signed up for it – it’ll be my third, however this time I will make it to the starting line.
Like many people, I had the aspiration of running a marathon many times before and it has been on my Bucket List for as long as I can remember but for what ever reason – getting older, being in a better place mentally, increased maturity, physically fitter… it’s only now that I have the focus.
I’ve run before having completed the Brighton Half in February. My target time was anything sub 2:00 hours but cramps in the last two miles reduced my run to a barely recognisable walk and ended up finishing it in 2:06. Next time will be different – I’m actually going to do some proper preparation and will be using next years Half as part of my training for the full marathon two months later.
So from now until then, I am going to blog each week on how I’m getting on, my training plan, nutrition, running groups that I have joined and the help I have received – hints & tips I’ve managed to pick up along the way. If like me you’re attempting a marathon for the first time then hopefully you will find some of it useful – likewise if you’re a seasoned pro then please feel free to share these hints & tips with the rest of us.
The point I really want to make however is, I’m just your average guy – certainly nothing special – so if I can do this then I don’t see why anybody else can’t either. So let’s try to encourage each other during the journey.
